This is a message to the members of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA) from Executive Director, Charlie Kyte
The audio pod cast is 5 1/2 minutes long and provides more in-depth information on each of the topics below.
JULY 4....SUMMERS MIDPOINT
Technically July 4 is not yet the midpoint of summer. However we begin to 'gear-up' for the new school year by early August, so this indeed feels like summer is 1/2 done. Be sure to take time for yourself and to recharge a bit before starting the next yearly cycle.
WATCH FOR A MAILING FROM MASA.....COMMITTEE SELECTION & NEW VISION FOR HIGH SCHOOLS REPORT
We will mail information to you in late July on the selection process for committees. We will also mail you a copy of the excellent report just issued by MASSP on what needs to be done to have outstanding High Schools in Minnesota. We are proud of the leadership role MASSP is taking with this initiative.
CONTRACTS & CONTRACT REVIEWS....GET THEM DONE NOW
For those of you with Term Contracts, if your contract expires on June 30, 2008, now is the time to negotiate a new contract. Waiting only makes the process more difficult and raises the chances of difficulty in obtaining a contract renewal. If you would like me to review your present contract and make suggestions for change just e-mail or FAX it to me. e-mail: ckyte@mnasa.org. FAX: 651-645-7518.
NEGOTIATIONS....REMEMBER YOU ALL HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER ONCE THE DEAL IS DONE
Contract negotiations with bargaining groups can often become contentious. Often the Superintendent and Central Office Administrators are the subject of criticism in this process. We caution you to be careful with your words and actions during this process. When all is said and done, you and your staff will need to work together once again.
FRESH START WORKSHOP ON AUGUST 14
The Fresh Start series of workshops is designed for mid career MASA members. See the MASA website for more information. These workshops provide you with an opportunity to sharpen your skills and be in deep conversations with others who serve in similar roles. The next workshop will be on August 14 at the MASA Office. There is no charge for this workshop, but we would like you to pre-register so that we can make appropriate arrangements. Call Jeanna or Mary at 651-645-6272.
SUBMIT AN ARTICLE TO THE "SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR" MAGAZINE
The "School Administrator" is a publication of AASA and comes out monthly. In the audio pod cast we review the schedule of topics for 2007-08. Consider submitting an article and be published in a recognized national education publication.
NECROLOGY
We are sad to inform you that Don Knutson, former Superintendent at Lake Benton and RTR, passed away this week. Funeral services are on July 6 in Lake Benton. Don was 71 years old.
