Here’s the scoop for the week

Governor Walz Complete Budget Proposal:

The full budget announcement will be made on January 24. Until then, we have the E-12 budget proposal released on January 17. We anticipate the announcement of other agency budget proposals that will impact our public schools to come yet this week. We will send proposed information impacting school districts as soon as it becomes available. 

Important and Time Sensitive PSEO Requirement for your School District!

The notice below appeared in the January 12 MDE Update for Superintendents and Charter School leaders. There are deadlines and requirements for disseminating PSEO information and posting on your website. As you know there are those who keep lists of school districts who are in noncompliance with these statutory requirements-not a list you want to make!

“Statutory Deadline for Dissemination of Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Information to Families”

“By March 1 of each year, or three weeks prior to the district’s course registration date (whichever is earlier), a district must provide up-to-date information about the PSEO program to all students in grades 8-11 (Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.09, subdivision 7). This requirement applies to both districts and charter schools.

Information about the PSEO program, including enrollment requirements and the opportunity to earn postsecondary credit, must be published on the district or school website and in materials that are distributed to parents and students. To provide consistent and helpful guidance about PSEO, updated language is available on the MDE Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) webpage. This language can be used on district and school websites to satisfy this statutory obligation.

PELSB Releases Revised Cut Scores:

On January 18, PELSB sent out communication with revised test scores that may result in passing scores for some who took the test prior to January 9, 2023.
