Here’s the scoop for the week

Attention Greater MN Superintendents: Opening on PELSB for a Superintendent Representative: We need you to apply!

We have been fortunate to have Richfield Schools Superintendent Dr. Steve Unowsky serving as the superintendent representative on PELSB for a number of years. The seat now must be filled by a superintendent from greater MN. Thank you, Dr. Unowsky. Your voice has been very helpful!

Here is PELSB’s announcement and the link to apply: 

“PELSB Board Open for Appointments

The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board has several board member positions open for appointment, including: charter school teacher, teacher outside seven-county metro area, teacher within seven-county metro area, and superintendent. Apply here.”

Policies and Procedures for Alternative Lunches:

Daron Korte, Assistant Commissioner for MDE provided a response regarding guidelines for alternative meals. He informed me that the following was sent out to the School Nutrition Director listserv yesterday (Wednesday):

Lunch Shaming Includes Alternate Meals

On Friday, November 18, schools were notified of the Attorney General’s opinion that schools may NOT provide an alternate meal to a student as a result of school lunch debt.

School districts that have been providing an alternative meal as a result of school lunch debt must stop this practice immediately.

If you have any questions regarding this opinion from the Attorney General, please submit your questions to Nutrition Program Services by Friday, December 9, 2022. 

Nutrition Program Services will review the questions and provide responses in an upcoming bulletin.
