School Leaders Extend Appreciation to Robyn Widley on her Retirement:
Thanks and farewell to State Special Education Director Robyn Widley. Appreciation is flowing from throughout MN for Robyn. Over the years she has made herself available to school leaders and has assisted with their many questions, provided advice and expertise. Robyn is an exceptional listener. Her life’s work has been to support students receiving special education, their families, their teachers, and their school leaders. We will miss Robyn’s smile, upbeat attitude and all the support she has shown over the years.
Robyn Widely - Thank you for your leadership and service! MASA has started a padlet where we all can post our greetings to Robyn. Please join in wishing Robyn a wonderful retirement: https://padlet.com/urickm1/8upumghdhaj3nsx3
Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Extends Deadline for Dual Credit Instructor Faculty Qualifications:
Communication was sent by the HLC on July 26, 2022, to all colleges and universities that had previously applied for an extension to come into compliance with HLC policy for faculty qualifications instructing in concurrent enrollment programs. The extension will expire on September 1, 2025. More information on minimum faculty qualifications and background about the extension provided by the HLC can be found here.
The following information was provided by Jessica Espinosa, Director, College Transitions
Academic and Student Affairs, Minnesota State:
The extension awarded to the colleges and universities with concurrent enrollment programs within Minnesota State applies to those high school faculty currently teaching within these programs and also may cover any new faculty who may begin teaching within a concurrent enrollment program prior to the deadline of the revised extension. All high school concurrent enrollment instructors who do not meet minimum faculty qualifications must have a professional development plan on file with their partnering college or university to meet the minimum faculty qualifications by the revised deadline of September 1, 2025. Additionally, in order to monitor progress towards compliance, all current and future concurrent enrollment instructors must enter their credentialing information into the systemwide database for credentialing evaluations. All concurrent enrollment instructors must be evaluated by the partnering college or university at the time the current credentials are submitted and re-evaluated as additional credentials earned are added by the high school instructor.
Minnesota State applied for and received the initial extension on behalf of all colleges and universities that had concurrent enrollment programs at the time of application. The HLC has communicated that colleges and universities currently under the awarded extension are automatically granted this extension. Minnesota State has been in communication with the HLC and confirmed there is no need to re-apply.
