Here’s the scoop for the week

Starting the Long Minnesota Good-bye to Retiring MASA Director of Professional Learning, Mia Urick

On July 25, Mia Urick announced her retirement plans to staff. Mia will retire effective December 31, 2022. She will use her accrued vacation prior to retirement and her final day with MASA will be on October 13, 2022. 

Mia has been an exceptionally dedicated 32 year employee of MASA. She has provided leadership, professional learning opportunities, support, and wisdom as the Director of Professional Learning for MASA. Mia has established relationships with business partners, members, colleagues in her field, and so many others she will be dearly missed. Her work ethic is extraordinary. Mia is witty, compassionate, and capable of doing whatever she has been asked to do over the years -and that has been a lot! Most importantly, she has focused her life's work on supporting those who educate our children, and now it is time to celebrate Mia and the phenomenal career she established.

Have You Had a Chance to Complete the Superintendent Contract Survey?

In response to a request from many of our superintendents, and as a benefit of MASA membership, we are going to again collect Contract Information from those of you willing to share it.

Why are we doing this?  

Collecting this contract information will allow you to review salary and benefits identified by others in similar roles in advance of your own contract negotiations.  

Who gets it? 

Information from the survey will only be shared with colleagues who have completed the survey and new superintendents negotiating their first contracts who request the information.

Will they know it's me?

Superintendent Name/District information will not be shared with others; it is collected only to know who will have access to the other survey data.

Please consider sharing your contract information by the end of the day on August 7, so we can have it ready to go - remember, the only way to GET the information is to GIVE the information. 

Commissioner Mueller’s Meeting on Educator Workforce Shortage

The hybrid meeting was held in Mankato on July 25 and included a review of data collected via a survey on staff shortages MASA sent to members on behalf of MDE and PELSB, numbers of teachers currently licensed but not teaching, average starting salaries of college graduates teaching and starting salaries for college graduates not entering the teaching field. Commissioner Mueller asked participants for ideas on short-term and long-term solutions. She indicated there will be additional meetings and information shared soon with school leaders state-wide.
