Here’s the scoop for the week

Did you know…

  • That PELSB passed a motion effective March 14, 2022, to allow out-of-state exams to be used for content and pedagogy exams in place of Minnesota exams? This may be helpful to your Tier 2 teachers who have passed exams in other states and need to complete this as one of the required components before moving to a Tier 3 license.
  • There is a grant opportunity passed as part of the 2021 legislative session called “Come Teach in Minnesota?” This grant provides funding for school districts to offer hiring bonuses to teachers who are American Indian or people of color who move to Minnesota. Here is a link to additional information: https://education.mn.gov/MDE/dse/equitdiv/ComeTeach/.

Action Alerts are coming soon and we need your assistance:

As legislators work toward approving final legislation for the governor, it is imperative they hear from you. We are especially concerned about a Data Privacy Bill that would allow families to opt-out of programs you are using for academics like Schoology and SPED Forms. We also believe the time is now to address the Special Education and English Learner cross-subsidies.

We will send you language and an easy-to-use system that will allow you to contact your representatives directly to let them know how impactful their budgetary and policy decisions are on your individual district.

Thank you in advance for your advocacy!

Congratulations Assistant Superintendent Jenna Mitchler!

Bloomington Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Jenna Mitchler has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Jenna will spend several weeks this summer in Tajikistan, learning about and supporting work related to design thinking and educational leadership. The scholarship provides funding for participants to build relationships with international institutions and communities.

Please Contact your Congressional Representatives re: Child Nutrition Waivers

I have been in contact with Noelle Ellerson Ng of AASA regarding the bills mentioned below and learned AASA supports these efforts and needs our advocacy.

Click here learn more and inside the blog you will find yet another link so that you can contact our legislators seeking their support of these bills.

Without either of these bills, the nutrition waivers will expire June 30, 2022. Additionally, the end of the waivers will mean flexibility around meal patterns will end regardless of your ability to access the food necessary to meet regulations, and the Seamless Summer Option program will end and you will once again have to collect Free and Reduced Price Lunch applications.

Thank you for your support!
