As I write this post, I am in the Senate Chamber waiting for the Senate to take up the E-12 Education Finance and Policy Omnibus Bills. Also today, the House is taking up the E-12 Education Omnibus Bill. This promises to be a long and interesting day. Once the bills pass their respective bodies, a conference committee will be named to iron out the differences in the bills. The bills then go back to the respective bodies for approval. During this time, the Governor interacts to have his priorities included in the bills. The Governor also works to keep provisions out of the final bill that he considers are “poison pills." As in past years, this will be a challenging process. The legislature must adjourn by the end of the day on May 21st. The clock is ticking!
Over the next few weeks we may issue action alerts on various topics. I hope you will respond to these requests and contact your respective legislators and/or Governor. Having your voices heard is so important to this process. Thanks for your past advocacy this session and thanks for any advocacy that you will participate in during the next month!
