Will Shapira

I have been tutoring immigrant students in English for about the past 12 years. It has become painfully clear to me that unless the methodolgoy of teaching them English is changed radically, they will be middle-aged by the time they learn enough English to function in society.
Much more time must be devoted to teaching them English and somehow, a way must be found to convince them that they must speak English at home and other places outside of school if they are to learn the language.
Compounding the problem is that their parents in most cases do not speak English and some have no interest in learning it. Even students born in the U.S. but coming from non-English speaking homes have major challenges.
I don't know if this is on your radar but it damn well should be.
